New Medical Office Building Ground Breaking

Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics held a “Ground Breaking and Press Event on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the South Entrance of the Hospital, to kick-off its $35 million Medical Office Building construction project. The project will not require new tax revenues and will be financed using revenue bonds issued by the Hospital District. Operating revenues will repay the bonds overtime.
“This is an exciting time for our hospital and community,” said Scott Hilburn, chair of the ceremony, and a trustee of the Hospital Board of Commissioners. “Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics is celebrating its 50th year of caring for our community. There have been a great many changes and growth in over half a century and many in just the past decade. We are not the same old rural community hospital. We are growing and we have become a leader in healthcare in our region.”
Hilburn added, “As examples, we offer our patients the only open MRI available in the lower Puget Sound area. We’re also proud of the variety of specialized services we offer, wound care, diabetes counseling, a new Anticoagulation Clinic, and we have added another lab draw station, and a walk-in clinic with extended, weekend hours. In addition, our diagnostic imaging services will soon include 3-D mammography, and all at the same time, we earned the top two quality awards from the Washington State Hospital Association. I am also excited to share that we will reveal the name of the new Medical Office Building at the MGH Foundation Fantasy Forest Gala and Live Auction on Saturday, November 17.”
The medical office building construction project officially broke ground this fall and is expected to be completed in late 2019.
The initial phase of the project began this summer with the relocation of the Health Information Management Department, Human Resources Department, MGH Foundation/Development Offices and the Volunteer Services Department. These series of office and department moves accommodated the staging of construction. The next phase of the Medical Office Building construction will include the clearing of the north parking lot area, demolition of the Human Resources building, relocation of the south Main Entrance driveway, completion of the north parking lot, the completion of the medical office building throughout 2019, culminating in a grand opening after the project is completed.
Eric Moll, MGH&FC’s chief executive officer, stated “The purpose of the Medical Office Building is to improve our ability to serve our patients by offering an integrated team-based care approach and fulfill our mission of Patients First. We will consolidate provider offices and patient services now located in multiple buildings east of the hospital into a modern, accessible and patient-focused facility adjacent to the main hospital. It will also allow us to offer new healthcare services and recruit and retain more physicians to our family of clinics.”
The two-story 60,000 square foot building will consolidate services from local practices an increase, from 71 to 104, exam rooms provide easier access to health care services for patients and their families. The MGH Hoodsport Family Clinic will remain in its current location.
