SHELTON, WA – Jason Pearson is known for going above and beyond to get the job done. As a Maintenance Technician, Pearson works closely with coworkers from every department of Mason Health. His ability to keep up with work and his willingness to jump in and assist whenever needed is why he was nominated and selected as Mason Health’s November 2021 Employee of the Month.

Pearson grew up in Washington, and when he was in kindergarten, his family moved to Shelton, where his father had grown up. He graduated from Shelton High School in 2000, and immediately entered the field of construction to support his new family.

“I knew I wanted to work close and in town,” Pearson said. “My wife and I had our first son at 18, so I started working right away to take care of my family.”

Pearson worked in construction for 12 years before being laid off during a period of economic recession. After that, he was a stay-at-home dad for two years before finding his chosen career path at Mason Health. Pearson acknowledged the challenges that stay-at-home parents face.

“It was hard work being a stay-at-home dad,” he said. “When my father-in-law told me about the job in Grounds Maintenance in the Maintenance Department at Mason Health, I took it. I liked the work right away because I liked being outside. Coming from construction, groundskeeping was not as back-breaking.”

In the 11 years since Pearson has been with Mason Health, he has moved from outside to inside, where he now interacts more with people. As a Maintenance Technician II, he does everything from maintain the boilers and HVAC systems to plunging toilers to running digital controls.

“It’s been great just growing and learning,” he said.

Pearson loves to ride dirt bikes, which he has done his whole life. He loves to fish with his wife, Brittany, and the whole family, a hobby they started a few years ago. Jason also enjoys spending time with his sons – he and his eldest son, Seth Pearson, who works in Diagnostic Imaging at Mason Health, recently built Seth’s house in Shelton. His younger son, Hunter Pearson, is 13 and is really into war history.
