MASON HEALTH NAMES ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TECHNICIAN TYLOR BROWN AS AUGUST 2022 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Release Date: Aug 30, 2022

SHELTON, WA – Environmental Services Technician Tylor Brown has been described as the “unspoken linchpin” to a department tasked with keeping all of Mason Health clean and sanitary, a not-so-simple feat in COVID-era health care. Brown’s insightful and dependable nature, which he exhibits with both patients and co-workers, is a major reason why his peers have selected him as the August 2022 Employee of the Month.

Brown grew up in the area and graduated in Shelton High School, class of 2010. He has family ties to Mason Health — his mother, Tammy Johnson, works as a scheduler for Diagnostic Imaging, and his grandmother, Alice Brown, worked as respiratory therapist for more than 30 years.

After graduating from high school, Brown held a variety of jobs in the local area, including at a grocery store, a downtown bookstore and at a local casino, where he worked in housekeeping. His previous employers and working environments were not a good fit, which is what lead him to Mason Health.

“The hospital is the best job I have ever had,” he said. “The management structure is better, and I like the union representation. It doesn’t feel like you’re talking to a wall if you have to get something dealt with. I was having a really bad time and when I saw the opening here, I applied right away.”

Brown has worked at Mason Health since 2018. The start of the pandemic in 2020 was an adjustment for his department because regulations changed constantly, but the team works well together and cleaning a COVID room is straightforward now.

His teammates love his pleasant and approachable attitude, which Brown attributes to practice and a desire to work as a team player.

“Losing your temper and being impatient isn’t going to get anything done,” he said. “If you’re in a bad mood and dragging your feet to get things done, everyone is going to have problems. My previous job was a really bad experience for me, so I try to not be like it was there.”

In his free time, Brown spends time with his family, including wife, Johanna, and their 3-year-old and 18-month-old.
