SEAN HAZLETT JOINS MASON HEALTH AS NEW DIRECTOR OF SUPPLY CHAIN

Release Date: Mar 10, 2022

SHELTON, WA – As the global supply chain continues to face enormous challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, health care systems must work proactively to ensure that patient care is delivered safely and seamlessly. Sean Hazlett joins Mason Health’s team as the District’s new Director of Supply Chain. Hazlett began work in January 2022 and brings with him extensive supply chain experience in the health care sector, as well as a desire to return to his roots in the Pacific Northwest.

Hazlett is from King County where he graduated high school. The summer before college he experienced a head-on collision while driving home late at night from work. He endured 16 surgeries and three long years of recovery. This experience motivated him to enter the health care industry.

He started his career for Spacelabs Healthcare in Issaquah, working in the dispatch center. He moved through various departments, ending his 19-year tenure as Manager of Logistics, which globally deployed clinical trial equipment.

“I enjoyed the fact that it was a start-up endeavor and that I was able to build it from nothing to what it was,” Hazlett said. “I enjoyed working in the ancillary side of health care. Working in Clinical Trials, researching new drugs and new technology coming to the market, I felt I was making an impact and helping the community and the world.”

In 2010, Hazlett began to work for Providence Health & Services in Renton. He found innovative ways for the health care organization to establish its own Independent Distribution Network. He also excelled at filling medical supplies, achieving a 99 percent fill rate for required medical supplies across a five-state supply chain organization.

While at Providence, Hazlett decided to complete his education. He graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain Management, and in 2019 with a Master of Business Management – Project Management degree, both from the University of Phoenix. At the same time, he raised his two children in the Renton area with his wife of now 30 years, Rachel.

After seven years at Providence, Hazlett moved to Arizona to work for the Yuma Regional Medical Center as Director of Supply Chain Services. At Yuma, he introduced new procedures and workflows that increased efficiencies, developed a new team to improve contract compliance by 50 percent and optimized local agreements to generate more than $12 million in savings and rebates.

After the death of his mother, he and his wife decided to move back to Washington to be closer to their children and first grandchild. Hazlett became intrigued with the job opening at Mason Health.

“Ever since I first came on site, I have enjoyed a welcoming community,” Hazlett said. “This is a great organization with a great culture, and I can see all of the growth that has occurred in the last two years. I am looking forward to bringing my experience to the table, especially during these challenging times. There is more understanding now of how critical supplies are to our future. It’s not like you can just shop online for a catheter.”

Hazlett is a Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, a corporate certification focused on process improvement via elimination of waste. He also has the professional designation of Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP), which represents accomplishment and expertise within the health care supply chain community, as administered by the American Hospital Association.

Mason Health, Public Hospital District No. 1 of Mason County, is certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and is a licensed and accredited acute care hospital with a level four emergency trauma designation.
