Amber Carlson joined the staff at Mason Health in January 2016. Prior to that she had worked as a clinical social worker at a local hospital in Kitsap County since 2010. Amber was born and raised in Snohomish County, Washington and has always considered the Pacific Northwest home.

She worked in case management and inpatient hospital work since 2008, having worked at a regional trauma center in Honolulu, Hawaii, while stationed there with her husband.

In 2021, Carlson obtained her doctorate degree and accepted the role of Director of Behavioral Health Services at Mason Health.

Practice Interests

In addition to her training in Social Work, Amber has had post-graduate training in motivational interviewing, indigenous trauma informed care, and LGBTQIA+ informed care. Amber enjoys her work with people within her community – believing that the patient is truly the center of any work in therapy and subscribes to the social work theory of “meeting people where they are at” in focusing on care directed by the patient. Amber utilizes supportive and humanistic therapy styles in her practice and does some teaching around distress tolerance skills from dialectical behavioral therapy.

Personal Interests

Amber enjoys jogging and has completed the New York City Marathon and Tacoma Marathon, as well as participating in several half marathons. She enjoys attending hockey and baseball games as well as traveling with her husband of 19 years. From 2008-2010 she volunteered as a Navy Family Ombudsman for the USS Los Angeles.
